Kapka Kaneva

Kapka Kaneva was born in 1978 in Sofia. She graduated from the National School of Fine Arts “Acad. Iliya Petrov” and later obtained a degree in Book and Print Graphics the National Academy of Arts, where she is currently a teacher.
Kapka creates objects from paper and cardboard, which she interprets with directed lighting. She photographs them and uses the digitally processed photos in illustrations and book covers, in posters or as independent artworks. She also gets drawn toward light art installations made of aluminum. She defines them as parallel shadow spaces in which, with the help of a system of lighting bodies, she creates a “light sandwich” of overlapping drawings.
