Young Balkan Designers (YBD) is a regional talent platform founded in 2011 with the aim to identify, promote and develop creative potentials of the Balkan region in the field of furniture, product and concept design.

Young Balkan Designers theme for 2019 is "Circular Design", called for design projects, products, concepts, services and scenarios that can bring the Balkans to the forefront of a much-needed paradigm shift in design, production and consumption, taking into consideration the challenges of climate change and exhaustion of resources.

More than 100 competition applications from 11 South - East European countries were received. The jury first selected 32 semi - finalists of the first round of the competition whose projects were exhibited in the Talent zone of Mikser Festival 2019 in Belgrade, from 24-26 May.

Based on the exhibited prototypes at Mikser Festival, and the designers presentations at Mikser’s Design Marathon, the jury members selected the final winners of the YBD19, whose prototypes are now included in YBD 2019 Traveling Exhibition.

During the Melba Design Festival, NEXT-DC will celebrate its 9th birthday with Opal Sunn — a live-performance duo with Japanese roots, reaching the depths of the world electronic stage.

Opal Sunn is a complex formulae made from the characters of Al Kassian and Hiroaki OBA. From the very beginning of his musical career, Al (Alex) has landed in the sight of renowned labels such as Paramida’s Love On the Rocks, Utopia Records by Alex Bradley or the London-based Phonica. The second half of the duo, Hiroaki, has passed through Tokyo’s music stage as a bass player for various bands before landing in Berlin, where he is currently based as a solo artist.

The duo’s tracks are a mixture of studio improvisations and playing around with their boundless approach towards music. A combination that has led to the release of their first double EP – Opal Sunn 1 & 2 (2017-2018), followed by Parallax (2018).
