I have a special interest in metals and the technological processes of production. Each is specific and subject to different treatments. I use soft metals such as alloys of aluminum, brass, and iron. Soft metals in the form of sheet metal can be easily plasticized by machines such as lathes and take round spherical shapes.
In addition to being a light source, lamps are also a design object. The light bulb "sinks" in the form and creates a cozy atmosphere. Serves as a reading or spot light.
The technology of the lampshade is called "deep drawing of sheet metal" and is made with lathe. A thin plastic sheet is drawn on a metal mold in the desired shape by pressure. This type of production offers variety and is not tied to quantity. It also gives some freedom of error for relatively easy change of details. The technological process itself is old. My master inherited the craft from his grandfather.
The material is black metal sheet with a thickness of 0.8 mm. I had difficulties with the making of the pipes. The shape of the base of the lamp turned out to be complicated to produce. Finally I came across a master of ornamental railings and wrought iron pavilions. His technology is the most simple one: directly with his hands he bends the metal pipe around a metal shape. Finally, all elements are painted with electrostatic powder coating.
The first concept for the lamp was born 5 years ago. The tubular construction was the same, but the lampshade was wooden. The wood requires a more specific treatment. I made a few pieces and abandoned the idea. I started developing the Pulsar line a year ago and only now it became reality.
The series was created and assembled in my studio in Reduta, Sofia. The details are made by craftsmen in Lyulin.
Purchases can be made from the official site or directly from 19 Kalimantsi Str., Sofia.
